TOPIC: LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF JOSEPH PART 8 (Genesis 42:1-25)

As we read how Joseph treated his brothers in the rest of this passage—and throughout the following chapters—it might seem at first glance that he was being harsh or even vindictive. He accuses them of being spies, imprisons them for three days, and places various pressures upon them. But when we remember that Joseph had consistently acted under the guidance of God’s Spirit, we must also believe that his actions here were not driven by bitterness, but by divine purpose.

Joseph wasn’t playing games; he was watching for evidence of genuine repentance. And when he heard their confession, his heart was moved. He turned away and wept—because the healing of a broken relationship had begun.
