TOPIC: LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF JOSEPH PART 10 (Genesis 44:1-34)

It is quite astonishing to witness the transformation of Judah. This is the same man who, years earlier, had suggested that Joseph be sold into slavery (Genesis 37:26–27). At the time, his actions were driven by envy, greed, and a callous disregard for his brother’s life and his father’s sorrow.

But now, in Genesis 44:33–34, we see a completely different Judah. Standing before Joseph (whom he still does not recognize), Judah pleads passionately for Benjamin’s release and offers himself as a substitute:

“Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the boy as a servant to my lord, and let the boy go back with his brothers. For how can I go back to my father if the boy is not with me?” (Genesis 44:33–34, ESV)
