THE BOOK OF PHILIPPIANS PART 6 (Philippians 1:27-2:4)

In the opening of Philippians Chapter 2, Paul passionately calls for unity within the Church: “So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy…” Paul’s use of the word “if” in this verse is not meant to question whether the Philippians are aware of these blessings but rather to remind them of the gifts they are already experiencing.

The blessings Paul mentions—encouragement in Christ, comfort from love, fellowship in the Spirit, affection, and sympathy—are qualities shared by all believers. Paul is pointing to these shared blessings as the foundation of their unity. By highlighting what unites them, Paul appeals to the Philippians to reflect on these qualities and use them as the basis for maintaining unity in the Body of Christ.
