THE BAPTISM OF POWER: WHY CHRISTIANS NEED TO SPEAK IN TONGUES PART 4 (1 Corinthians 12:1-11)

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was never meant to be a one-time experience but a continual reality in the life of every believer. The early disciples did not stop at the initial encounter on the Day of Pentecost; rather, they continued to experience fresh infillings of the Spirit as they faced new challenges and opportunities in their ministry (Acts 4:31). This shows us that spiritual renewal must be ongoing. Just as a lamp needs oil to keep burning, so every believer must continually be refilled with the Holy Spirit to remain effective, fervent, and fruitful in their walk with God. Speaking in tongues refers to spiritual utterances inspired by the Holy Spirit. These utterances may take the form of known or unknown languages—sounds and expressions that may seem unintelligible to the human ear, yet carry divine meaning and purpose.

To truly understand what it means to speak in tongues, we must look beyond the physical act of speaking and recognize it as a supernatural operation of the Spirit—a divine means of communication between God and man. Tongues serve as both a sign of the Spirit’s indwelling presence and a spiritual language through which believers commune with God in prayer, worship, and edification.
