REPENTANCE: THE PATHWAY TO FORGIVENESS (Luke 15:11-24)

Some people claim that Christians no longer need to ask God for forgiveness when they sin because, in their view, all sins—past, present, and future—were already forgiven at the cross. This idea comes mainly from a hyper-grace or over-realized salvation interpretation of Scripture. Let’s unpack it carefully.

Repentance means a change of mind and heart that leads to a change in direction. It is not merely feeling sorry for sin, but turning away from it and turning toward God. Repentance is not mere regret; it is an admission of wrongdoing born out of conviction by the Holy Spirit. It is the duty of the Holy Spirit to convict us of sin.
