BELIEVERS UNION WITH CHRIST: STUDY THROUGH THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS PART 19 (Ephesians 5:21-6:4)

“Submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.” (Ephesians 5:21

It is important to understand that the roles of individuals within the structure of marriage are not dependent on each other’s performance. In other words, a husband is not called to love his wife only because she submits to him, and a wife is not called to submit to her husband only because he deserves it or treats her well. Each role is a responsibility given by God, and it is ultimately carried out as an act of service to Him.

Therefore, when the wife is instructed to submit to her husband “as to the Lord,” it means that her respect and submission are first directed toward Christ. She honors her husband not simply because of who he is or whether he deserves it, but because she desires to obey and honor the Lord. In the same way, the husband is called to love his wife and to be willing to sacrifice for her, not merely because she has earned it, but because he has a responsibility before God. His love is offered in reverence to Christ and is presented to God as an act of obedience and worship..
