BELIEVERS UNION WITH CHRIST: STUDY THROUGH THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS PART 10 (Ephesians 3:1-13)

We cannot miss how Paul completely digresses from what he initially intended to say when he opened with, “For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles…” (Ephesians 3:1). Instead of finishing the thought, he pauses to explain what he means by “on behalf of you Gentiles.”

He introduces this digression by saying, “assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you” (v. 2). He then spends the rest of the passage describing his mandate as a steward of this mystery.

The clarity of Paul’s calling in this passage cannot be overstated. His mission was free of ambiguity. He had been entrusted with the stewardship of the gospel to the Gentiles. What is especially striking is that Paul repeatedly describes this calling as an expression of God’s grace (vv. 2, 7, 8).
