AGAPE PART 2

Paul’s emphasis on love’s supremacy over spiritual gifts challenges us to evaluate the motives behind our actions, ensuring they are rooted in genuine love. As we strive to embody this divine love, let us remember that it is through selfless acts, guided by the Spirit, that we truly reflect God’s character. By making love the foundation of our faith, we fulfill God’s greatest commandment and become instruments of His grace in the world.

Paul, through the Holy Spirit, teaches that the demonstration of spiritual gifts without love is unacceptable and meaningless. What Paul addresses here is the motive behind the gifts. In other words, spiritual gifts cannot be considered a sign of God’s approval if they are not rooted in love. He writes, “Earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31).

This is why Christ’s miracles often occurred when He was moved by compassion—because true spiritual gifts operate out of love.
